![]() Today I introduce you Ying Wang a young model who comes from China. Julie Psaila : Hi Ying, tell me a little about yourself. Ying Wang : Hello FACTICE magazine! My name is Ying Wang, a 20-year-old Chinese girl who is now living in Bangkok. I am a fulltime university student as well as a pasionate model! I started modeling in 2007 when i was discovered by Oz, a Bristish photographer. I found my passion and talent in modeling since then, and have been carrying on till now. I love music, fashion, selfportraits, travel and read books. I need music everyday, it is drug. Trance and electronic are my favorate. I used to think of being a singer, but it wasn't really a big thought for me. I am easy going. I love smiling ,though i do worry about wrinkles, LOL. I am proud to be a girl and to be myself. I want to get myself in Europe and model there. It is my dream. What are your work experiences? My experience of modeling is very diverse. I really learn a lot from modeling, getting to know more people, building connections...and most important, i learn to appreciate my own beauty and feel more confident. To be a model, you need to take care of yourself, both your body and your mind. You need to be always ready for the coming things. You need to be extremely expressive and down to earth on the shoot. You gotta give everything to the camera. Well, most experience is very interesting and funny, because people in this industry are all very nice and talented. Most time, i feel that we're already becoming good friends after the shoot. On the other hand, experience could be very tough and difficult. You need to work out and sweat a lot and keep fit.

How and why did you become model? I dreamt to be a model when i was a kid. Well, I am not tall enough to make it. I sighed with a local Chinese model agency when i was in high school. Due to heavy schoolworks, i couldn't spare time for it. Well, I got some regular training from the agency, like catwalk. I found myself really interested in modeling. I found it so exciting and challenging. Then i started to collect beautiful images (mostly fashion images) and buy fashion magazines. Then i came to Bangkok. I was discovered by a British photographer. He really liked my looks and wanted to shoot me. After the first photoshoot, things were really going nicely. I got to know many photographers from Modelmayhem, an international website where models, photographers, makeup artists are gathered. I did a lot of testshoot until now. I love modeling and it has become part of my self-concept. My passion for modeling is no way compared to any other interest to me. I want to make it so i will carry on!
What is your nicest experience as model? The nicest experience was the shoot with Seneda Theory. We had 5 people on set that day. We started it near 4 pm when the sunlight was that strong. It was very hot and we shot under Rama III bridge near Chao Phaya River. We shifted on to the bridge for another set and it was nearly 6 pm when the traffic was ridiculously busy in Bangkok. There were very few people on the pedestrian. So we thought it would be ok. After I changed my clothes and then got to the spot. I was wearing a red cocktail dress and 1/4 of my back was naked, which we all thought it was really nothing. I really felt the right emotions and stayed still. We shot in film and the light was pretty dim so I needed to keep the pose for near 15 seconds. I didn't really know if there were any people watching me and just focused on my job. Then, we made one shot. I changed my position and we were going to shoot again. Just when the photographer was adjusting the camera, a policeman came to us and looked furious. He started to talk in Thai immediately. All of us didn't understand a word! The photographer tried to explain to him that we won't use it for commercial reasons. But the policeman didn't understand us at all and kept talking in Thai. We were all worried because we need the location and it was becoming dark so soon! We told him that we just needed 3 more minutes to finish it then we were to move. Then a kind Thai girl just passed by. She saw us in trouble and decided to help us communicate with the policeman. Thanks GOD she was able to speak a bit English. Eventually, we knew that we actually caused traffic jam! All the drivers were watching us and refused to move their cars!! Another policeman who is the leader of their team came on a motorcyle. He looked pretty at ease. We suddenly saw hope and tried hard to explain to the lady and the leader policeman. He smiled to us and finally agreed to let us shoot for another 3 minutes. We thanked the lady and quickly got back to our job. After we finished it in 2 minutes. The photographer kindly asked the leader policeman to take a picture with me. He was fully amazed by the idea and felt it reluctant to refuse the good invite! So he agreed. He adjusted his police uniform and stook right beside me! We made it! He asked us if he could get the image and wanted the photographer to send him the picture. Of course, we agreed happily. What a moment! After the shoot, we joked about the exciting story. I would be a star in the police station in Bangkok.LOL!!!
What did you learn thanks to your job? I really learn a lot from modeling and it has affected every part of my life. I met many talented people and we shared our stories and become friends. And some of them actually want to help me. For me, it was the very inspiration to keep me going on. Because it is a very difficult industry and I am not tall. I always need good motivation and encouragement to support my belief to be a model. I also learn so many things about other countries. Because most of the photographers I worked with are from Europe and American, they're like windows to show me other countries. We shared our stories and joked about funny facts and trivia happening in our own countries. It is really interesting! And I always get ideas about where I want to go after i graduate. Our conversations always give me little ideas about life and people in other countries. They're very limited but I am constantly forming ideas and attitudes towards these countries and people over there. But I know, I gotta get there myself and see everything personally! I always learn to take care of myself and live a balanced life. As a model, you need good body, good health and good skin. I have been changing my lifestyle since I became a model, like drink a lot of water, get enough sleep, and take regular exercise. I am pretty happy with it. Everything is only exposing for a limited amount of time. For example at once or twice McDonald per month, I get the pleasure. And thinking about the benefits you get from this lifestyle, I feel very grateful to modeling! How could you describe your personality? I'd say I am a impatient, easy going, and creative being! I am dying to be waiting, really. People tell me it is bad because goods always come the last. Well, I think to be impatient make a funny life, seriously!
What changed in your life since you are model? I'd say my plans about my future. Because I see my talent of modeling, so I want to make it glow. I used to have a very vague idea of my future because my parents always help me to plan everything out, going back to China, getting a job, then getting married. I dont really like the idea and it is painful for me to picture the future days of my life and the images of my body and my face in 20 years, being a office lady in the daytime then a housewife back home. It sounds pretty comfortable but I dont think I just deserve life like that and it fits me personally. In your photographs what is your commitment? My commitment is being me and making good pictures at the same time. I am commited not to waste time of the whole team's and mine. So I need to fully concentrate and give everything What differentiates you from other models? Firstly, of course, my height! It is the thorn in my heart but by knowing this point, I know I need to work twice harder than other models to make it!Secondly, I'd say my expressive face! Lastly, my personality. I feel like I am a very diverse and various person. I play different roles in different places. I feel like I am changing within every single minute. And I am very sensitive, stimuli and inspirations are really everywhere for me. On what type of plan do you dream to collaborate? I dream to collaborate with amazing photographers,Paolo Roversi, Peter Lindbergh and Steven Meisel!!! What are your plans? I plan to go to London and Paris in May. I want to model in Europe. It is the heart of fashion world. There are more opportunities there. Hopely, I could get signed with good model agencies there and support my living. By Julie Psaila
