Julie Psaila: Hi Sarah. What do you love the most about your job? Sarah Varacalli : Because I don't naturally have an overt personality, modeling has served as both a fantastic and unlikely means of self expression that otherwise may not have come so fluently to me. Though the emotional spectrum of a model can often feel limited, with the right team I'm able to expand my pallet, which can be rewarding. Especially when it comes to life though print.I'm forever fascinated by people and I feel blessed to be in a position where I'm constantly meeting not just image makers, but designers, artists, art directors and general fashion junkies that I can relate and at my best create with. It's a career with a lot of choice. If you have a desire to create, explore, travel and indulge you'll find yourself intoxicated with it. Not to say the lifestyle isn't demanding.
How could you define your personality? Shy, mathematically inclined, bibliophile, observer. I feel most awake and comfortable in nature but my life's work requires me to cycle between cities at a constant pace.
How would describe your personal style? Minimal, geometric, classic and comfortable. But still manicured and personalized without a hint of lazy. There's nothing I hate more than lazy dressers. Even if you're jet lagged, there's no excuses! What are your hobbies? Photographing nature, portraiture, writing, collecting and my darling kittens: Pierre and Moishe. What are your plans? I'm currently creating a body of artwork, including several life size self portraits which are combined photographic paintings entitled "Phantasia." I also have been spending my time hiking at odd hours collecting bones, leaves and fungi for an upcoming jewelry line. By Julie Psaila
